Oh, What a Tangled Web

Directed by Janie Loudon, junior

9:00am-9:45am (2nd period)

On an impulse, a young girl makes up a story, and the complications that result from it are extremely funny. Suddenly needing an excuse, the girl fumbles for a moment and then blurts out that there has been a death in the family. Actually, the only thing wrong in this family is that the cat is missing. In any case, people start coming over to express their concern and sympathy. The parents think they're referring to the missing cat and the hilarious complications just continue to multiply! --Dramatic Publishing, Inc.

Previously directed by Bethany Potter, Fall 2004, and Mark Iancu, Spring 2008

The Audition

Directed by Cory Wilmarth, senior

10:45am-11:40am (4th period)

A new Drama teacher is bringing a production of A Chorus Line to his high school. Though the hopefuls range from shy to outrageous and from reluctant to determined, everyone has a chance to step into the spotlight. The Audition is a hilarious and heartbreaking look at the madness of auditioning and the actors who brave the process for the perfect part. --Playscripts

Cirrius, Nebraska

Directed by Dan Loudon, senior

1:00pm-1:50pm (6th period)

The town of Cirrius is so small that the mayor is also the judge and the postmaster.  But the secret the townspeople hold is no small one, as a New York businessman discovers on a trip to the Brigadoon-like town.  After a few meals with the locals at the bed and breakfast, the stranger soon finds that while warm and kind, nobody can take a joke.  Through a string of comically awkward interactions with the tight-lipped townsfolk, the secret behind the serious mood comes out...  it is against the law to laugh.  When Rose, the local school teacher, tells the stranger about the fateful day the bizarre law went into effect, he begins to understand.  And in sharing their secret with a stranger, a glimmer of hope for change creeps through the gray clouds that have been hanging over Cirrius for years.  --Pioneer Drama

Wednesday, June 8th:

No Fading Star

Directed by Kaylee Dickerboom, junior

8:00am-8:50am (1st period)

In the monastery of Maria Morgenstern, life seems to go on quite predictably, even in 1943 Germany. But behind the convent walls there is an active underground working to hide and transport Jewish children through Germany to the border. One morning, Klaus, the monastery handyman, brings David and Miriam, two Jewish children. David is angry and threatens to return to the ghetto, insisting that he must return for his bar mitzvah and "stand like a man to say, I am a Jew." Mother Franziska arranges for the bar mitzvah in the face of threats from her sister, who is a Nazi sympathizer, and imminent searches by the local Gestapo commandant. --Dramatic Publishing

The Wizard of Oz

Directed by Brooke Milliken, senior

9:45am-10:30am (3rd period)

When Dorothy drops into the Land of Oz, only one thing is certain: she's got to find a way back to Kansas. A funny and fast-paced journey down the yellow brick road ensues, as Dorothy and her new friends travel to the fabled Emerald City to meet the Great Oz. When Oz demands a steep price for sending her home, a perilous new adventure begins. Full of ensemble possibilities, this imaginative adaptation captures the heart of L. Frank Baum's classic tale. --Playscripts

It’s Not You, It’s Me

Directed by Samantha Lundberg, senior

11:45am-12:30pm (5th period)

Whether your boyfriend is a Canadian secret agent or monk in training, or your girlfriend is a pathological liar, one thing is for sure: you are probably going to break-up at some time. Exploring the painful art of breaking-up through comedic, awkwardly realistic characters, this series of wildly hilarious scenes are sure to make you feel relieved not to be the receiving end of those five fatal relationship words. –Playscripts

This is the 5th One-Act under Samantha’s direction – more than anyone else in the CPCS HS Drama Dept history!

Thursday, June 9th:

(Chapel Schedule)

The Ugly Duckling

Directed by Alyson Circeo, sophomore

8:00am-8:50am (1st period)

Arrangements have been made for Prince Simon to marry Princess Camilla. The King and Queen are nervous because-- let's face it-- Camilla is plain! It is decided that a beautiful maid will impersonate Camilla until the wedding. The Prince hears of Camilla's beauty and, considering himself rather plain, has his extremely handsome man Carlo impersonate him. Simon and Camilla meet by chance and fall in love. Each is beautiful to the other and they live happily ever after. – Samuel French

Previously directed by Jennifer Fleet, Spring 2002, and Tommy Juel, Fall 2005

The Godmother

Directed by Olivia Nivison, senior

9:25am-10:00am (3rd period)

What is a tough Chicago gangster doing hiding in a cheap motel in the middle of nowhere? What is the mysterious connection between mobster boss Victor Antula and his dreaded rival Sal Monella, "Czar of Idaho"? Is Lola Bottomy really Victor's moll or an undercover FBI agent? Why is Orlando Lakes tired of the racketeering life and eager to run off with Victor's lovely daughter Julietta? For the answers to these and other trivial but hilarious questions, head for "The Heat Is On" cabin camp, where Mrs. DePoint will make you very comfortable indeed. This melodramatic farce picks up on gangster films and fashions and makes scrambled eggs out of it all. Marked by puns, asides to the audience, and other absurdities, this is a comic tour de force. –Dramatic Publishing

Previously directed by Kaliene Roth, Fall 2003
