This is my 20th year at Cedar Park Christian School and I consider it a great blessing in my life! I have taught many grades from 5th to 12th, and many subjects including English, SAT Prep, Pacific Northwest History (PNW), Contemporary World Issues (CWI), Geography, Journalism, and Study Skills.
I was born and raised on a farm in Monroe, WA. I attended Seattle Pacific University where I earned my B.A. and M.Ed degrees. I also met my husband, John, at SPU, and we have been married 39 years. We have two children and four grandchildren. My favorite place to relax is at our cabin in Plain (near Lake Wenatchee). Besides being with my grandkids, my favorite activities are reading, card making, knitting and gardening.
I am looking forward to what God has in store for this school year, and I know that it will be "beyond what we can ask or think" (Eph 3:20). My goal for my students each year is that they will "walk in truth" (3 James 4).

News and Updates

The assignments for Macbeth are in the file attached. This represents a slight change from what was printed and handed out. The changes were necessary because we got a later start than intended to begin this unit but must still finish at the same time. Therefore, we are doing an in-class essay rather than a typed essay, and the acting is optional for those who would like to do so.

EDITINGI am noticing a downhill trend in students editing their essays. I ask students to bring their rough drafts to class two days before they are due and ask them to edit in class while I make rounds to see if the focus and direction of the papers are on track. I am noticing that many rough drafts have no marks other than what I make. Proper editing of papers with the do/don't list is essential for a good grade. Mistakes are being repeated. I think reading a paper aloud before turning it in would be a part of this process, as students would stumble on their errors as well. Expectations are going up since we have written four essays so far, but grades are not going up because of sloppy editing and repeating the same mistakes on every paper. I have no problem with parents editing, if errors are circled or underlined, but students should learn to follow up and do the correcting of those errors.

Please be sure you have your foreign author books in class on the first day back after the snow. You might try to get a jump start on reading as far as you can in the first section, since things will get really busy making up One Acts and reading youe wonderful stories to our "little buddies".Due to snow, we will try to reschedule our "little buddy" reading times into next week even though it is a new semester and some students are changing their schedules.

Please note that I have created some helpful worksheets for weekly vocabulary. I have used the words in sentences that have clues in them for the word needed. This should help with the quarter final. The answer keys are on the counter in my classroom. Give it a try :)
