Frank Yang
Ni-hao. It means “Hello” in Chinese.
This year, I have the privilege of teaching Chinese, Algebra I, and Algebra IIA at CPCS Bothell. I was originally from Taiwan. I attended University of Washington and obtained a B.S. degree in Chemical Engineering and a B.A. degree in Economics.
We have two children who attend CPCS. It has been such a blessing to watch them blossom as God intended in this great environment.
If you need to reach me for any reason, please feel free to contact me, either by phone or email. If it is urgent, you may call me on my cell phone 206-229-6997.

We are about to pass our "basic calculator only" phase now. If you have a scientific calculator, bring it to class. If you do not have a scientific calculator, please get one during Easter Vacation. It does not to be a fancy one. Something like Texas Instruments TI-30 or Casio FX-300 will work. You need to bring your calculator to class beginning on Monday 4/16/2012.
In attempt to enforce the math concepts learned in the classroom, students are to do all problems in each lesson. It is essential for students to complete (at least attempt to complete) all problems on each lesson. It is not acceptable to "skip" problems when they are difficult. It is too easy to continuously skip the same kind of problems and never seek help until it translates into bad test grades.
1. All assignments can now be turned-in WITHOUT penalty.
2. For the rest of the school year, all assignments HAVE TO be 100% completed to be acceptable. You have to attempt all 30 problems by showing work on all of them.
3. There will still be early extra credit (5 points) if they are 100% completed by beginning of the period on the day before the due date (24 hours). Additionally, you still get extra credit for the practice problems.
4. Self grade assignments before turning them in. Each assignment is worth 45 points. For each incorrect answer, you get -1 point (up to -30 since there are 30 problems). However, you may redo as many times as you like to recover lost points. To receive recovered points, redo the problems (with shown work) correctly on a separate page, write "REDO" on it, and attach to the original assignment and turn it in. You can turn-in "redo" assignments any time up to end of quarter. You can redo as many times as you want until you get 100% score.
5. Be HONEST on your self-grading. DO NOT CHEAT. DO NOT COPY ANSWERS. If you do, you will receive a zero point for the assignment, and yet you still have to redo and complete the assignment. Please be honest. You know and God knows what you do and I am watching, too.
6. All grades need to be in by end of each quarter. Any one incomplete/unacceptable assignment at the end of the quarter will result in a 2% reduction of quarter grade. So, for example, if you have 3 incomplete assignments, you will get 6% grade points deduction. If you have 85% grade point for the quarter, -6% means you will receive 79% for the quarter. COMPLETE and turn in ALL assignments.
7. Since this is an updated policy, 2% grade reduction only applies to assignments assigned on or after March 20, 2012.
8. All students have read this policy and signed.
